APRA Europe Expert Webinars

Monthly interactive online seminars

APRA Europe offers free monthly expert webinars

APRA together with APRA Europe is the Voice of Remanufacturing since 1941. As a non-profit association one of our value propositions is to provide guidance and support, i.e. give advice to remanufacturers, communicate latest technologies and inform on complex legal issues.

As a service to our members and the remanufacturing community, we are sharing professional knowledge through this state-of-the-art channel.

Every month, one of our experts will give a webinar on a dedicated remanufacturing-related topic and give insights into best practices. The webinars will cover a wide range of topics, from Operations to Financials, from Policy to Sustainability.

We intentionally limit the webinar duration to less than one hour, so that as many of you as possible can join flexibly and easily process the contents. Each webinar will include the expert’s speech followed by a Q&A where the interested audience can ask questions and discuss.

And, the best is yet to come, all expert webinars can be attended free of charge.

Please keep updated through our LinkedIn, newsletter and website communication.

Participation is free of charge. However, registration by email is required as we want to check the efficiency of the webinars for continuous improvement.

For registration, send an email to info@apraeurope.org and mention date of webinar, your name and company name.

How to evaluate cores in financial accounting

by Peter Bartel

The correct financial evaluation of cores is of practical relevance to all companies which are acting in the field of remanufacturing and the circular economy business. By today, there are no generally valid guidelines available. However, the evaluation of the cores impacts the balance sheet of companies and therefore directly or indirectly the profit calculation.

Covid-19 and Remanufacturing

by Georgios Chatzinikolaou

The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in numerous impacts on the environment. The global reduction in human activity such as the decline in planned travel has caused many regions to experience a large drop in air pollution. In Venice, water in the canals cleared and experienced greater water flow. As people stayed at home due to lock down, some animals have been spotted in cities. Sea turtles were spotted laying eggs on beaches they once avoided due to pollution. However, energy and climate expert Konstantinos Samaras states that ‘’a pandemic is the worst possible way to reduce emissions’’ and that ‘’technological, behavioral, and structural change is the best and only way to reduce emissions”. Such a technological change, as one of the best ways to reduce emissions, we could say is remanufacturing of auto parts. From all the above we can understand how important the reduction of emissions for the environment is and which positive impacts it has for the planet and humanity. With remanufacturing we save the environment by reducing CO2 equivalent emissions with a potential of millions of tons worldwide. We also save natural resources with up to 85% of raw material and about 55% of energy compared with new units. The webinar will examine the impacts of the pandemic on the environment and compare them with those of remanufacturing. The consequences of the Covid-19 crisis for reman and opportunities for the industry will also be discussed and analyzed.

NPI Optimization – a knowledge driven project

by Lorenzo Gaspari

Continuously introducing new references to the product catalogue is the independent remanufacturer way of securing the business of today and tomorrow. Doing it efficiently is definitely a challenge for a process that has many stakeholders and it is often dealing with the latest product technologies. To improve it, a clear direction has been set: investing in knowledge.

New technologies in component remanufacturing

by Clemens Ortgies

Disruptive trends in the environment of engine remanufacturing like the switch from combustion engines to electrical drivetrains, tighter restrictions from engine manufacturers and new emission limits for on road and off road engines will have an influence on turnover and margins in engine remanufacturing business. The future reman processes have to be streamlined and have to use more available data. New reman technologies with manageable investment cost can help to cut cost and save cores. The webinar will first show data driven processes in service and maintenance and introduce the reman technology “Cold Spray” as measure to treat damaged cores with additive material.

Automated Optical Core Identification of Brake Calipers

by Oto Pavlik

Training operators for sorting operations is one of our  the longest activities, and choosing an operator suitable for sorting is also not easy. That was the reason why we started to find out what the possibilities are to automate this operation. We chose Optical Core Identification by convolutional neural networks due to the wide range of uses in the future. The future is not only for sorting brakes, but also for any other possible sorting by shapes & edges or automated visual quality control.

Is your business model sustainable for the future?

by Thijs Jasink

With the current shift in the automotive industry it is important to see the opportunities in the transition towards the sustainable and circular car. What challenges do we face and where can we collaborate, or redirect our business models, to stay current in the aftermarket.

The most important KPI in Remanufacturing

by Dr.-Ing. Daniel C. F. Koehler

KPIs (key performance indicators) are fundamental to navigating production processes and are the basis for continuous improvement.
Managers are facing the challenge to thoroughly choose, implement and keep track of the most relevant KPIs for their individual situation.

Dr. Daniel C. F. Koehler, Chairman of APRA Europe and experienced remanufacturing executive, will reveal the most important KPI in remanufacturing. Together with the second most important KPI, it is directly affecting the following success factors:

– Productivity and production cost
– Core availability
– Core utilization
– Infill ratio or quota (also referred to as fill-in or fake reman)

All professional remanufacturing managers should know which are these two KPIs and how to implement them successfully in their production management.
